Surface water of Florence County
There are 265 lakes and 165 miles of rivers and streams in Florence County.  The Pine and Popple Rivers are state designated "Wild River."  There are only 3 of these rivers in the state and 2 of them are here in "Wild River Country."  The Pine and the Popple were designated by Wisconsin legislature as state wild rivers in 1965 to be protected from development and kept in a natural free-flowing condition.
