What is the Family Center?

Parenting is an important responsibility, and all families can benefit from parenting information and support.  One key to positive parenting is to seek more information.

The Family Center provides many opportunities for you to celebrate your role as a parent, and learn more ways to parent positively!  Parents who participate in Family Center activities will have the opportunity to:

Y   learn effective discipline techniques

Y   learn what to expect as their children grow

Y   improve family relationships

Y   learn how to talk with and listen to their children

Y   develop stress management skills

Y   share ideas with other parents

Family Center programs are provided free-of-charge and on-site childcare is available for classes and workshops when noted.

The Family Center is funded by the Children’s Trust Fund, and supported by Florence County, the Florence County Health Department, and by your gifts of time, materials, and financial donations.

Volunteer Opportunities

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on the kind people of our community to volunteer their time and help.  The majority of our “hard-cash” funding comes from the Wisconsin Children’s Trust Fund (CTF).  The CTF requires a local match of at least 20% of the grant award.  Volunteer time and donations account for half ($17,000) of our annual local match.

How can you get involved?

Y        assemble mailings; copy and deliver posters and fliers; design fliers; make phone calls

Y        provide childcare during classes/workshops; assist with parent/child activities

Y        do simple carpentry/handyman projects

Y        write news releases; write grants; look for/research grant opportunities

Y        join the Family Center Inc. Parent Advisory Committee

Y     co-represent the Family Center with a staff member at community functions/events; co-represent the Family Center by making presentations on behalf of the Family Center at municipal government meetings

Y        let us know if you have access to any of these resources:  computer, pick-up truck or van, sewing machine, video camera, photographer, digital camera

Please let us know what you’d like to share!
